Varijashree signs with GroundUP, poised to unveil ‘Vari’

Mumbai, 14th February 2024: Singer Varijashree Venugopal has made history as the inaugural Indian artist to join the roster of GroundUP Music, a prominent music label. She is poised to unveil her forthcoming album, “Vari,” helmed by Michael League of Snarky Puppy, under the same label.

In addition to her vocal prowess, Varijashree is a skilled flautist, composer, songwriter, and music educator. Her diverse talents have led her to collaborate with an array of esteemed musical luminaries worldwide, including Bobby McFerrin, Victor Wooten, Bèla Fleck, Hamilton de Holanda, Eddie Gomez, Michael League & Snarky Puppy, Ricky Kej, and more.

Talking to us she said, “Presenting the sound and soul of Indian music to the world on a global music platter has been my life goal. As a student of Carnatic music, this is the biggest way in which I can celebrate the culture of my land. This journey of mine is meeting its first of milestones in the form of my upcoming original music album ‘Vari’. There could not have been anyone better than the magnificent genius and my dear friend Michael League (Snarky Puppy) to produce my album. It is an immense honour to be the first Indian artist to be published on GroundUp Music, a USA-based record label that is a ‘by artists – for artists’ record label always standing in support of uniquely original music and music makers. To add to all the goodness, we will be the first Indian act to be featured at GroundUp Music festival 2024, Miami, where the music from ‘Vari’ will be played live for the first ever time! Album will be out in May 2024, with it’s first single out mid Feb!”.

Talking about the song and the collaboration, Michael League said, “For us at GroundUP, it’s an honor to welcome Varijashree Venugopal to the label as our first Indian artist. With her album, “Vari,” she exemplifies the philosophy that GroundUP was built upon- innovation through mastery of tradition. We are thrilled to support her in her musical journey of breaking barriers and carrying the rich legacy of Carnatic music into new and unexpected places”.
