Qawwali is timeless — the challenge is to present it in a way that resonates today without diluting its essence: Master Saleem

Let’s Get LOUDER has released ‘Duma Dum Mast Qalander – Rebooted & Revved Up’, an electrifying fusion of high-energy beats and spiritual devotion, reimagining the iconic qawwali track for today’s global audience. With the powerful vocals of Master Saleem and the dynamic duo Sultana and Hashmat, the track injects a fresh, vibrant energy into a beloved classic, breaking through the noise of conventional music. We had a brief interaction with Master Saleem upon the release of the track, check out what he has to say;

What does this collaboration with ‘Let’s Get LOUDER’ mean to you? How did it come about?

This collaboration is very close to my heart because it brings together traditional and contemporary sounds in a powerful way. ‘Let’s Get LOUDER’ approached me with the idea of reimagining something iconic — and it instantly struck a chord. The process was organic. We brainstormed how to retain the soul while giving it a modern sonic identity.

Tell us about ‘Dama Dam Mast Qalandar’ and the thought behind this reimagination.

‘Dama Dam Mast Qalandar’ is not just a song — it’s a legacy. The idea was not to remix or commercialize it but to honor its roots while making it accessible to a younger generation. We wanted the spirit of devotion and power to come through but with arrangements that connect with today’s audience. It was about emotion, not just production.

How was your experience collaborating with Sultana and Hashmat?

Working with Sultana and Hashmat was magical. They bring such authenticity and soul to every note. Their energy is contagious, and the way they adapted to this version of the track — while keeping its rawness intact — was beautiful. It felt like a true meeting of hearts and sounds.

What does 2025 look like for you? Any plans?

2025 is already looking exciting! There are a few original compositions lined up, and I’m focusing a lot on independent releases. I also want to travel more, collaborate with artists from different regions, and explore new sounds. It’s going to be a year of growth, experimentation, and deeper storytelling through music.

Qawwali is a niche art form. How do you keep it relevant today?

Qawwali is timeless — the challenge is to present it in a way that resonates today without diluting its essence. I try to strike a balance between authenticity and accessibility. Whether it’s through digital platforms, contemporary arrangements, or live performances, the goal is always to stay rooted and yet evolve.

Any final thoughts or message you’d like to share?

Just that — we need to keep celebrating our cultural heritage with pride. Fusion isn’t about diluting traditions, it’s about expanding their reach. I hope people listen with open hearts and feel the love we’ve poured into this.

Well, while we celebrate the heritage, its only wise to also celebrate the ones who are keeping the heritage alive, like Master Saleem. Check out his work and keep streaming ‘Duma Dum Mast Qalandar – Rebooted and Revved Up!
