Singer-songwriter Dev Mehta debuts with upbeat, eclectic single “You’re Alright”

Mumbai, 12^th June 2023: Meet Mumbai based singer-songwriter Dev Mehta an artist 13 years in the making. The 25-year-old has been playing the guitar for over a decade, having performed with numerous rock bands in Gujarat and Maharashtra in various college fests and indie gigs. Dev is certainly no stranger to the spotlight. “I’ve been composing music and writing lyrics with bands since I was in high school. Now I have finally come into my own as an artist and a songwriter.” Dev is ready to share his songwriting with the world in the shape of his exquisite pop/indie single “You’re Alright”.

Inspired by the likes of Jason Mraz and John Mayer, Dev beautifully captures the easy going early 2000s singer-songwriter vibe and Producer Shirish Singh effectively interweaves it with a modern day lush production style. You’re Alright is an eclectic mix of a variety of musical styles and genres ranging all the way from pop to indie to African Folk! The pre-chorus is totally driven by Congas and Bongos and the bridge section has some beautiful African voices in the mix.

Dev has never really fit the mould as an artist or as a person. “I’ve always felt like a walking contradiction, wanting to stand out but also to fit in. So I have come to the conclusion that it is futile to try and create an identity for yourself, because you are not an identity but a multiplicity.” As the first two lines of the song suggest –

Dev does not limit his inspiration to the world of music alone. He is influenced by the likes of philosophers and psychologists such Albert Camus, Friedrich Nietzsche and Carl Jung. “My biggest inspiration as an artist is Bob Dylan because he understood that it’s not just about the music, but also about what you want to say, what message you want to put across to the listener. Contrary to the trend today in the music industry, I want to bring back an emphasis on the lyrical content of songs. As Artists we all must aim to create meaningful songs. Something worth actively listening to and not just for the dance floor or for passive listening at the gym or in the car.” says Dev.

‘You’re Alright’ is a song written for the listener. Join in as Dev narrates from the point of view of different characters who share their experiences and the common wisdom that they have all learned which is despite all the hardships, in the end “You’re Alright”. Listen to You’re Alright here:
