Shashaa Tirupati Releases ‘Raynnn’ From MAAHIRR, Creating A New Musical Language Between Traditional & Electronic Sound

Mumbai, 25^th September 2026: Shashaa Tirupati has released ‘Raynnn’, the first track from her upcoming four-track EP MAAHIRR, alongside producer Shabeer. Described as a transnational soundscape, MAAHIRR explores a contemporary musical language where electronic production and Hindustani classical practice function as equal compositional forces. Rather than simply placing traditional and electronic sounds together, the project aims to create a distinct sonic identity around love, longing and complicated emotions. The EP traces these feelings through a space caught between a sepia-toned past and the contemporary world, establishing an ambitious musical framework for Shashaa’s latest independent project.

Rooted in Raag Megh, ‘Raynnn’ explores all-consuming passion and yearning through a meeting of centuries-old poetry and contemporary songwriting. The track incorporates words borrowed from Amir Khusrau alongside verses written by Shashaa Tirupati, bringing two different eras together through a shared emotional experience, the heartsickness of losing oneself in love. Speaking about the track Shashaa says, “Raynnn is for Daddy—the one person whose approval shaped every note I ever sang. He isn’t here to tell me whether I got it right, so the song lives inside that unanswered ache: of still speaking to someone you’ve lost, and still waiting for them to answer. It is my way of asking for his validation one more time, knowing it can never come”.

Produced by Shabeer, ‘Raynnn’ places Shashaa Tirupati’s evocative vocals against an unexpected electronic soundscape, with contemporary singer Ben Parag’s fleeting vocals adding another layer to the composition. Speaking about the track Shabeer says, “Working on Raynnn has been such an intricate journey of sound design and music production. At first, when Shashaa sent me her vocals, I let her entire composition guide me through the production. Having less knowledge of Raag Megh actually helped me approach the track in ways that didn’t necessarily follow the traditional rules, but somehow shaped the uniqueness of the soundscape. After hearing Ben’s voice and witnessing the vocal recording sessions, I realised that I needed to level up the sound towards the end of the track, and that’s how the groove change came in.This has been one of my best experiences in music production because I had complete creative freedom. It took me to places I didn’t even know existed in my mind”.

For Shashaa Tirupati, MAAHIRR represents another step beyond conventional playback music and deeper into independent artistic exploration. The Indian-born Canadian singer-songwriter has worked across more than a dozen languages and hundreds of songs, while her training in Hindustani classical music and experience as a multi-instrumentalist have shaped her versatile musical identity. Her collaborations with A. R. Rahman, including ‘Vaan’, earned her the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer, while her 2022 debut indie album I’m Sorry, Heart marked another chapter in her independent journey. With Shabeer shaping the EP’s electronic and classical sound architecture, MAAHIRR aims to explore uncharted sonic territory while allowing tradition and innovation to exist as equals.
