Mumbai, July 28th 2021: After the release of her last single ‘Wolf’ that made it to music aficionados’ playlist , artist Nikitaa is back with a new single titled ‘Boomerang’. She collaborates with American indie rap duo Flyana Boss for an all women hip-hop track co-written by Flyana Boss. Self produced and arranged by Nikitaa, ‘Boomerang’ in its own right is a collaboration between artists of color who have a deep-rooted heritage and have united from their respective geographies. An all women song that is truly an international indie collaboration.
Lyrically ‘Boomerang’ articulates the feeling of recognizing toxicity early in a relationship and how that recognition pushes a person to burn bridges, a cord cutting mantra.
The accompanying motion comic video captures the vibe perfectly and is created by Pakistan based illustrator Amna Abbas.
Singer Nikitaa comments, “I really enjoyed putting this song together and the freedom and empowerment it brought along. I wrote this song to symbolize the decision one takes to cut off unwanted people from your life. And I reached out to my friends and rap duo Flyana Boss because I just LOVE what they’ve been doing with their music. In terms of production, I went a little bit more hip hop/dark on this. I started creating the track with those guitar parts and loved including foley sounds of the car, the gun etc. to make it feel like the story the lyrics tell is happening in real time. When I was writing Boomerang, I knew I wanted a superhero-villain adjacent storyline, but with a twist! The lyrics just flowed out of me like a big exhale. I wanted listeners to feel like they were actually there with us, getting away from this shady character that boomerangs in and out of your life. It felt so good to talk so frankly about being done with someone and something I had poured my heart into from whom I was clearly getting nothing in return.”
Talking about collaborating with Flyana Boss, Nikitaa adds “I went to music school with both Bobbi and Yinka and I’ve been watching them put out hit after hit since they’ve come together as Flyana Boss! Their writing is so clever, unapologetic and authentic. I have their music on repeat on my phone all the time. They were the natural first choice for me! So I hit them up, sent them the draft and they loved it! It feels so good to be putting out music with fabulous women of color who are truly such amazing people to boot.”
Talking about the music video, she adds, “The video is a motion comic video! It is another collaboration with a woman I admire – Pakistan based illustrator Amna Abbas. Of course, since this was all illustrated and animated, working remotely was easier in some ways! It’s always easy working with someone who’s dedicated to the vision and understands it so quickly.”
“My goal this year is to work with women I admire and this is just step 1!’, she concludes.

I think it’s safe to say that you can continue to expect music – both English and Hindi (and maybe even Punjabi) from me in years ahead ‘ concludes Nikitaa.
It is part of her plan to continue to defy expectations and build a catalogue of self-penned material that will continue to garner fans throughout the music world.
