Imon’s ‘Ziya’ Captures the Fragile Balance Between Urban Disillusionment and Hope

New Delhi, 6th April 2026: Delhi-based singer-songwriter and producer Imon returns with ‘Ziya’, a stirring new single that navigates the emotional contradictions of modern city life. Rooted in a rock and grunge-influenced soundscape, the track marks a bold sonic evolution from his earlier releases, Homage and Fools’ Parade, while retaining the raw, introspective lyricism that defines his artistry.

Lyrically, ‘Ziya’ traverses layered emotional terrain. The opening moments paint Delhi as guarded and impersonal, while later verses turn sharply satirical, critiquing performative morality and rigid social structures. Yet, at its heart lies a quiet resilience. The Assamese chorus, translating to a call to “come out and capture dragonflies before they disappear”, becomes a metaphor for preserving empathy, tenderness, and fleeting beauty in an increasingly hardened world. The title itself, derived from the Assamese word for “dragonfly,” symbolizes hope and the search for belonging amidst chaos.

Talking about the song Imon says, “I cannot think of a song that feels closer to home than Ziya, even though it is also a critique of a city far from home in every possible way. You really understand who you are and what defines your core being when you’re in an unfamiliar space”. The Guwahati-born artist describes the song as, in part, an ode to Delhi, the city he moved to in 2015 to pursue his bachelor’s degree. “It was a huge cultural shock” he says. “Yet Delhi taught me how to navigate society, peoples, politics and values; and subsequently find an identity. A skin I’m comfortable in.”

Sonically, the track is expansive and deliberate. Beginning with restrained, introspective instrumentation, ‘Ziya’ gradually unfolds into a powerful rock-driven crescendo, marked by a dynamic time-signature shift and culminating in a layered post-rock ambience. This sonic journey mirrors the song’s thematic arc, moving from introspection to confrontation, and finally, to catharsis. Collaborations with Delhi-based musicians Shantanu Sudarshan (drums), Rahul Rai (bass), and Dipen Gupta (lead guitar) further enrich the track’s textured soundscape, pushing Imon beyond the traditional singer-songwriter framework.

With ‘Ziya’, Imon not only expands his sonic palette but also sharpens his narrative voice, crafting a piece that feels both intimate and universally resonant. The single arrives as a precursor to his upcoming debut EP, with an all-India tour currently in the works.

‘Ziya’ is now streaming across all major platforms.
