Retro2Metro: From A Backstage Conversation To A New-Age Musical Journey

Mumbai, 11^th May 2026: Started as a backstage conversation between two performing artists in 2018, Retro2Metro has today evolved into one of India’s most distinctive live musical acts. Known for blending the nostalgia of retro Bollywood music with the energy of contemporary live entertainment, Retro2Metro has built a strong identity in the live performance space through its seamless mix of timeless classics, modern Bollywood hits, Punjabi chartbusters, soulful melodies, and high-energy stage storytelling.

The duo features acclaimed Bengal-based performers Shubham Banerjee and Somchanda Bhattacharya, whose natural on-stage chemistry and emotionally driven performances have helped them build a loyal audience across India and international markets. Interestingly, the original concept of Retro2Metro was envisioned and pitched by Somchanda Bhattacharya, while Shubham Banerjee played a key role in shaping the duo’s musical arrangements, live sound, and overall performance identity.

Speaking about the vision behind Retro2Metro, Shubham Banerjee says, “Retro2Metro was never created to be just another live act. From day one, the idea was to build a musical experience where nostalgia and modern energy could coexist on the same stage. We wanted audiences of different generations to feel connected through music. Today, as we move towards original music and larger creative concepts, that vision has only become bigger.”

Over the years, Retro2Metro has performed at concerts, corporate events, destination weddings, luxury celebrations, and large-format entertainment shows, steadily emerging as a fresh live act that connects with audiences across generations.

Talking about the emotional connection audiences have with the duo, Somchanda Bhattacharya shares, “I think people connect with Retro2Metro because everything about it feels real. What started as a creative collaboration slowly became our life journey as well. When we perform together, audiences don’t just see two singers on stage; they experience emotions, memories, chemistry, and storytelling through music”.
