Announcing their decision on October 13, 2026, the duo confirmed they are now independent artists, marking a significant shift after a decade of commercial success. Reflecting on the transition, the duo expressed gratitude to their longtime label partners while sharing their excitement about the future. “After 11 amazing years, we are now independent. We are eternally grateful to our incredible team at Columbia/Disruptor for a decade-plus of hard work that has resulted in unimaginable success,” they said in their announcement. They added that they have “no idea what to expect” from the next chapter but are eager to experiment with upcoming music releases. The duo also reassured fans that new records are on the way, writing, “Thank you for sticking with us, fam; we know we owe you some records!”

Their partnership with Columbia/Disruptor began in 2015 with ‘Good Intentions’, followed by career-defining singles including ‘Roses’, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, ‘Closer’, ‘Paris’ and ‘Something Just Like This’. Their debut studio album, Memories…Do Not Open, topped the Billboard 200 in 2017, and the duo went on to release five studio albums during their label partnership. Their most recent project under the labels was the Love Is Kind EP, released in May 2026. The departure also follows their 2025 split from longtime manager Adam Alpert, who founded Disruptor Records in partnership with Sony.

The decision arrives amid broader changes within the duo’s professional team. In a recent LinkedIn post, Pall discussed the value of bringing fresh perspectives into their working environment, explaining that change can reveal opportunities even when existing arrangements are successful. As The Chainsmokers step into independence, the focus now shifts to how they will approach their next releases, creative decisions and relationship with their global audience. Although details of their upcoming music remain under wraps, the duo’s promise to experiment signals an exciting new phase for one of electronic pop’s most commercially successful acts.
