Raghu Dixit’s ‘Amma’ Is Breaking Hearts With Its Deeply Emotional Mother’s Day Story

Mumbai, 11th May 2026: Raghu Dixit has released what may be the most emotional and personal song of his career with Amma, released on Mother’s Day 2026. Known for blending folk roots with global sonic influences, Raghu takes a deeply intimate turn this time, crafting a song that feels less like a commercial release and more like a heartfelt thank you to mothers everywhere. The track is already resonating strongly online for its emotional honesty and universal theme of unconditional love.

The story behind Amma makes the release even more powerful. The idea was born in 2011 after Raghu returned from a hugely successful six-week UK tour that included chart success, major accolades, and a standout performance at Glastonbury Festival. During his flight home, he began listing people who contributed to his success. However, after writing down 35 names, he suddenly realized he had forgotten the one person who made everything possible, his mother. Overcome with emotion, Raghu immediately called her, only to receive the simplest response: “Forget all this, just come home. I’ll make you a good meal”. That deeply human moment eventually became the soul of Amma.

Speaking about the song, Raghu Dixit shared that Amma came from “a very honest and vulnerable place,” adding, “It reminded me how often we take the most important people in our lives for granted. ‘Amma’ is my way of saying thank you – not just to my mother, but to every mother who quietly holds everything together”.

Originally written in Tamil, reflecting his roots and his mother’s language, the song has now also evolved into a Kannada version following years of audience demand across Karnataka. Moreover, the music video transforms the song into a collective emotional experience. Wanting to celebrate mothers everywhere, Raghu invited fans and their mothers to participate in the visual. Hundreds responded from across the country, with around 40 participants eventually selected for the shoot. What followed became an intensely emotional environment where real stories, tears, and raw family moments repeatedly paused filming itself. Crew members, participants, and even Raghu were visibly overwhelmed throughout the process.
