Mumbai, 8th October 2026: Lorde has entered the growing debate around Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s ‘Loop’ tour, making her position clear with a pointed fashion statement at Austin City Limits. The singer shared a photo of herself wearing a one-of-a-kind white jacket featuring the words “FREE PALESTINE!!!!!!” across the bottom. Lorde also appeared to tag Robert Kraft in the post, although the account tagged was reportedly a fan page for the New England Patriots owner rather than his verified account. The jacket was the same one she wore during her Austin City Limits performance two days earlier and appeared to feature handwritten decorations.
The gesture comes after Macklemore was removed from Sheeran’s US tour following his onstage support for Palestine. During his opening performances, the rapper spoke about Gaza and the occupied West Bank and used his platform to call for Palestinian freedom. Kraft, whose company owns Gillette Stadium, subsequently said he found Macklemore’s comments “deeply offensive and hurtful to the Jewish community”.
The fallout has continued to spread across the music world. FINNEAS, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Sheeran’s touring band Beoga all withdrew from the tour in solidarity with Macklemore, while the rapper donated his reported $1 million tour earnings to organisations supporting Palestinians. Macklemore has also announced a sold-out ‘Free Palestine Tour’. Meanwhile, Sheeran has said he is “not complicit” and described the suffering caused by the Israel-Palestine conflict as a tragedy.
Lorde’s statement also follows a similar gesture from Zach Bryan, who recently wore a “Free Palestine” shirt while performing at Kraft’s Gillette Stadium. With more artists publicly challenging the handling of political expression at concerts, the Macklemore-Sheeran controversy continues to become a wider conversation about music, free speech and the power artists have onstage.
