‘Dhun Ki Katha’, a soulful musical journey by Gayatri Asokan through the heart of Indian melody

Mumbai, 14^th January 2026: State Government Awardee and acclaimed vocalist Gayatri Asokan presents ‘Dhun Ki Katha – The Story of Indian Melody’, a distinctive audio-visual musical experience that traces the emotional, cultural, and historical journey of Indian music through time. The production brings together Gayatri Asokan’s evocative musical storytelling with a special collaboration featuring renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Ruchira Kedar.

Conceptualised and led by Gayatri Asokan, ‘Dhun Ki Katha’ stands apart for its thoughtfully curated audio-visual narrative. Each segment of the performance is interlaced with visuals, anecdotes, and reflections that illuminate the origins, philosophies, and cultural roots of Indian classical music. These narratives, at times poetic, at times playful, transform every raga into a living chapter, inviting audiences to not just listen, but to deeply feel and experience the essence of Bharat’s rich musical heritage.

A State Government Awardee with over two decades of contribution to Indian music, Gayatri Asokan is celebrated for her soulful ghazal and devotional renditions and her lyrical sensitivity as a performer. Widely respected for her versatility and emotional depth, she has collaborated with legendary musicians across genres and continues to shape meaningful musical experiences that bridge tradition and contemporary expression.

Joining her on this musical journey is Ruchira Kedar, one of India’s most respected Hindustani classical vocalists of the younger generation. A recipient of prestigious honours including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, Ruchira is known for her refined raga expression and deeply emotive renditions of Khayal, Thumri, Bhajan, and Dadra, adding classical depth and nuance to the production.

“Dhun Ki Katha was born from a desire to explore the soul of Indian melody beyond genres”, says Gayatri Asokan. “It is about tracing emotions, histories, and shared cultural memories through music.
