Sitar Maestro Purbayan Chatterjee fuses Raga with Prog-Rock on stage with Steven Wilson in Mumbai

Mumbai, 5th November 2025: A historic musical moment unfolded in Mumbai as globally acclaimed sitar maestro, Purbayan Chatterjee, joined legendary English progressive rock artist, Steven Wilson, on stage for an unforgettable live collaboration. The performance, part of Wilson’s highly anticipated “The Overview Tour” in India, marked a stunning synthesis of Western progressive rock and Hindustani classical music, aptly described as a true “Prog Meets Raga” spectacle.

Purbayan Chatterjee, a President of India awardee and celebrated innovator in classical music, performed alongside Steven Wilson, most notably featuring on the epic track “Voyage 34”. The synergy between Wilson’s intricate rock soundscapes and Chatterjee’s soulful, virtuosic sitar created a transcendent experience for the audience, bridging cultural and musical divides.

“Yesterday was a very special night”, said Purbayan Chatterjee. “While I was familiar with Steven Wilson, seeing his show live the visuals, the storytelling, the sheer power of the band was a true eye-opener. I felt an instant affinity between his grooves and arrangements and Indian Ragas, realizing I could contribute significantly. Playing on ‘Voyage 34’ was a deeply memorable experience, and Steven himself was absolutely wonderful. I already look forward to the next one”.
