Speaking about the project, Rahman said, “Some projects are beyond you; they become the soundtrack of people’s lives. The music of Ramayana is carefully woven to complement the story, love, and belief of a billion people. Working with Namit, Nitesh, Kumar Vishwas, and my amazing, relentless team has been a great journey. Scoring with Hans Zimmer has been a lifetime, memorable experience. Hope you enjoy every bit of it.”
The evening opened with a children’s choir performing the Tamil version of “Jai Jai Ram”, setting the tone for a celebration of culture and devotion. Rahman later performed the song alongside Chinmayi Sripaada, followed by musical themes from the film and live renditions of “Mangal Rang” and “Jodi Jodi”. One of the evening’s major highlights was “Ravana Tandav”, released on Dussehra, with Yash sharing how the song’s connection to Lord Shiva influenced his portrayal of Ravana. This is a story that has lived in our hearts for generations, and I always believed its music needed to carry that same emotion, devotion and timelessness, while speaking to audiences across the world. Bringing together two musical legends, A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, was driven by that very vision to create something deeply rooted in India, yet universal in its appeal and emotion. To experience this music come alive in Chennai, alongside the incredible people who have poured their hearts into bringing Ramayana to life, was an incredibly special moment for me. I am delighted to partner with T-Series and Amazon Music to take the music of Ramayana to audiences around the world. This has been a deeply personal journey, and I can’t wait for the world to experience it.”
